Hi Gail,
Just visited your page on the Métis. Congratulations for creating a very interesting site!
What most interested me was the ancestor table you had on Jacques Hamelin, son of Jacques Hamelin and Anastasie Landry, as I have been struggling with Anastasie¹s ancestry for some time now. Jacques and Anastasie are my husband¹s 4g-grandparents.
I saw in the actual church record of Jacques and Anastasie¹s marriage that her mother was a Beaudoin, not a Cormier as shown in your ancestry table for Jacques Hamelin AND in the Red Drouin (a sometimes unreliable source). However, the other information in the marriage record (names of two other Landrys in attendance, without specifying what their relation to her was) seems to indicate that the Landry/Cormier marriage is really the one we¹re looking for, but there was also a Beaudoin attending that wedding. Since Anastasie was born circa 1753, i.e., BEFORE the troubles in Acadia that had them scattered all over the globe, it is a safe bet that she was actually born in Acadia. The only parents that I have been able to find in Acadian sources that make sense for her were Antoine Landry and Anne-Marie CORMIER. So I too had come to the conclusion that PERHAPS Anastasie¹s parents were actually Antoine Landry and Anne-Marie Cormier. I have seen such mistakes in actual church records before. They occur much more often than we would like to think! Do you have any information I don¹t have that would bring you to conclude that Anastasie¹s mother was definitely Anne-Marie Cormier rather than Beaudoin?
Once again, thanks for your wonderful web site!
