Dear Mr. Lockhart, you are correct,at the time of that posting, I must have mistyped the information on Poor Dog. I am so sorry. It’s Lew! It’s Lew. Mr. Lockhart was my father. There is certainly no need for apologies, young man. In fact, you were ‘right on,’ as they say. I finally found the 1886 census you had consulted. Strangely, it was and is misplaced in a file with outside dates of “1895 to 1902,” namely LAC, RG 10, Volume 3753, File: 30628, Reel C-10133, File Title: Duck Lake Agency - Inspector J. C. Bigin's report and census for the White Cap's reserve. Either that was so, meaning it was misfiled, or the file was not properly indexed. Whatever! What a wonderfully helpful census that is, by the way. And it is stamped "1886." I never would have found that had you not mentioned it, so I sure thank you for that. I remain uncertain about Charles Red Eagle’s wife's lineage. I do think he married Mary W. Whitecap, but, it does seem, there must have been a generation between his wife and Wapháska, and I have no idea about who that woman might have been. My email address is l.lockhart@sasktel.net. If you have a mind to, we can work on that mystery together in the weeks and months to come. Cheers! Thanks, again!

Hi. My great grandfather is Charles Eagle or Redeagle born 1875 or 1877. According to a 1891 Canadian census, Charlie Eagle was 16 years old, his brother Dan was 14 years old and they were noted as grandsons with mother in law Yankee Whitecap. I am on ancestry.ca now and there are ancestors going back to 1600 but on my 73 year old Mother’s side who is Cree decent with Métis ancestors who lived in Manitoba (Red River) or lived in French settlements throughout Quebec. It’s my Father’s side I wish to research. Grandpa was William Tucker Eagle. Great grandmother Mary Whitecap was listed on the same 1891 census as Charlie Eagle: Mary Whitecap, age 13, daughter under Mrs. Whitecap.
Wapahasa (78) born 1823 and his wife, Wasuna (65) born 1836 are listed on the 1906 Canadian census for Moose Woods Indian Reserve or Whitecap Dakota First Nation now named. Would like to trace these individuals if anyone has information.
My email is ceagle369@gmail.com.

cdneagle:Welcome back. I have been unable to find out who white cap's sister was. Two of sleepy Eye's daughters wed Joseph LaFromboise,a French trader, the third daughter wed Louis Provencalle dit LeBlanc. My family ancestry stems from the marriage of Ta Wepa Wanska, daughter of Wanska Checha, (Wanska C. presumably Sleepy Eye’s sister) to Louis Provencalle. Louis was half Chippewa. Their daughter Margarita married Charles St. Antoine, and their son, Antoine C. St. Antoine married Adele Joinville. They had 5 sons. Their son Louis St. Anthony was my mother’s maternal grandfather. For many years my family understood it was Sleepy Eye’s daughter or possibly step daughter who married Provençalle. We now believe she was his sister. Is information available on their father?

I am also a descendant of Antoine C. St. Antoine to his 2nd wife Eugenie LeClair (they had 6 children and Mary Jane was the only one to have had an kids). I have a letter that was written by Daniel Faribault, he had interviewed an old indian who knew Louis Provencalle. He said that Louis married Chief Sleepy Eyes Mother; She had been married to a Sisseton Warrior. He had died and she later married Louis and together they had Margarite. I will look for that letter and share it with you when I find it.
I don't know if I'm reading your post correctly or not, but am I understanding this correctly, was Margaret's name Ta Wepa Wanska? Also, do you have any pictures of the St. Antoines? Neil, Louis, Oliver, Simon, or Israel, or anyone? I would love to know what my family looked like. Your Great-Grandfather, Louis, was a gaurdian to my Great-Grandmother, Mary Jane (she was his Half-Sister).
