Am looking for more information on the parents of a Rosalie Martin born 1843. Would have been 1/2 Sioux. Believe that her parents were Louis Martin born 11 Feb 1803, died 15 apr 1858. Her mother is where I am uncertain. I have both a Zoe Winona and a Cankuomaniwin. I believe she was a Mdewakanton from a village in or around Mendota Minnesota. Appreciate any help. Rosalie would be my great great grandmother.

debiggett: Log in to www.family search .com this is the Mormon archives seite. . You first need to register and give yourself a Username and password, for future visits to this web-site. It is free. type in your ancestor's name and you will see his name come up. Select it. when you do, you can click on the names and go further back in your ancestor's family history. Unfortunately, i couldn't find anything on Montgomery Pike,Jr. or his wife Josephine at Ancestry.com which is unusual.

Sorry, just read this post, l could spend hours here if I had the time. Wish I could, not many better uses of your time than looking at and reading these fascinating posts. The only Martin I know of in the Pikes, is the wife of John Boohr or (Booher). B 9/19/1814 his wife's name was Abigail nee Martin - Booher B 1815-1820? That's the only info. I have on them, I have a picture of them in their older years that I will be sure to upload tomorrow. Along with her daughter Catherine nee Booher - Wells. Wife of my ggg grandfather William,Wallace Wells B: 9/19/1846 Fond Du Lac, MN D: 4/19/1920 Ft. Thompson S.D. (German) Don't know what that refers to, unless Booher is a German immigrant family? Check post on Need a search for Montgomery Jr. Pike and Josephine nee Kane - Pike. As it too has useful links. Update: I posted a link to a family photo album on ImageShack. Here's the album link: img683.imageshack.us/g/grandmajanewoodard10g.jpg/The older couple are John and Abigail Booher. _____________ here it is in Photobucket:http://i615.photobucket.com/albums/tt240/kouklamu/RosaliemartinBaptismalRecord.jpg

I estimate that the oldest of the photos maybe 1890s - 1910s.
I have family photos of George Works Woodard and his wife Sarah Goss. Probably in about the same years as my grandma Helen, 1920s or 30s. or maybe a little earlier as George was born about 1840 or 1845.
Glad you enjoyed 'em... will post others as soon asap. Here is a listing of the members of their houshold in Campbell Co. So. Dakota in 1900. I'm sure it's them! On Ancestry.com Nevermind, I'll post the info. later, they require a membership before you can view their pages on Ancestry.com

vicky: I was able to make out the date of April 13(or 17?),1843 at St. peter and st Paul, I certify the baptism of Rosalie born of Louis Martin and achanh'omanwe(could be "a savage") (il, i am wondering if this means ilegitimate?), and mentions the god parents as Joseph brunet(or brunel) and Madam turpin robinet. It is signed by Fr. Galtier.

We're so happy to help, Debi. This is what we live for here! :-) OK, it translates-
"In the year of Our Lord Jesus Christ 1843, the 15th of April, I the undersigned, priest serving the parish of St Peter and St Paul, certify that I baptised Rosalie, born the 11th of this month, (il.) daughter of Louis Martin and of ..... The godfather was Joseph Brunel and the godmother was M. Turpin Robinet. In faith whereof I sign, L. Galtier, priest."
So, the name or word after Louis' is still a mystery. I sent this off to Louie Garcia to see if he can figure out the name, if it is a name. The closest I can get is- (If the first letter is a capital P with the top worn off) Pehan= crane ko= and or quick aman= hatch wi/win= woman
Hopefully Louie can shed some light on this.
