kermit Frazier: How are you related to John Smith?
John smith aka "indian John"/Tunkanhcanhdeska was born @1827 and died in 1932 Redwood,Minn. his wife was named Julia kampeskadan. They had a son Edward Smith and a daughter that died young. Lots of luck finding a family tree for Black Dog.he may have had more than the one wife mentioned above. You won't find a probate for him as he appears to have died before the 1862 Uprising. Are you sure you have the right John smith? there are 2 other John smiths, one who lived at Santeeand the other John Smith lived at sisseton.

kermit Frazier: I question your alleged relationship to anyone in Black Dog's family, let alone John Smith/Indian John. I have 2 kermit Fraziers in my files,Kermit Sr., born @1932 SD, died 1n 1995, and Dewey ,SD. his parents were Simon Frazier and Lucille Frazier. Simon's parents were Rev. Lot Frazier and Rebecca Frazier. Kermit,Sr. and his wife, had among their children a son Kermit ,Jr., AGE @45 - 48 yrs old, living in Eagle Butte,Dewey ,SD with wife Raylene Frazier..

the records indicate that one of Joseph "Jack's" 'spouses" was a daughter of Chief Grey iron, known only as Winona, and had a child with her, before he left her with his mother to care for.unfortunately the records don't indicate if it was a boy or girl child. __________ Update: the child was a daughter named Mary.
early church records for Prairie du Chien, show that Augustine Roc/Rocque's son Baptiste married Joseph Jack Frazier's daughter Mary Anne Frazier.

Yes that was a great find on the Decorah and Armell. thanks to my mom she is the one that has been pushing me to find out roots!. i was searching for the Frazier at Wisconsin history center and i asked about the Armell because of my mother told me about Orval Armell and they told me about the lady researching the Armell and that she wrote a book on them. i did like the book it was good reading and was very well written.

kermit: In prof. Baker(or Barker's) book laq Que Parle,Its Missionaries ,Trders and Indians,he relates of the tragic circumstances, re.Cloud Man's older brother, fearful Face. It seems that one of his wives was secretly arranged to be given to Chief Grey Iron(aka Iron Hoop)and Fearful Face found out about it. he went on a rampage, threatened to cut off her nose, then began killing horses in the village, and challenged chief Grey Iron.He was made to realize that Grey Iron and/or his friends were going to retaliate, so he and his mother fled to lac Qui parle where Joseph Renville had his trading post. On the way there, several of Grey Iron's friends ambushed and killed him. unfortunately the name of the woman involved in the feud was not given.

According to the Dakota custom back then, when a couple adopted a child, they would hold a feast for the members of the village, and announce the adoption of the child, and gifts were exchanged. all i have been able to find out is that Paul mazakute was raised by Tawotaheduta and his wife.after his mother died, but nothing saying that he was adotped by Tawotaheduta. Rev. william Saul was adopted by Cetanwicaste and his wife, per Eli Abraham's testimony,re.the estate of Esaias Frazier(BIA records).
