Tamara reply to me from the other board I just posted it here.
Mr Denney, I think you need your own catagory/thread/research section. The links are very appreciated and I tend to get lost in them, learn lots, and am constantly afraid I am going to miss something!! lol

Well! "ask and you shall recieve" !!!
I think who ever suggested this to you must be a very smart individual!
all jokes aside, I am looking forward to being able to use your new board in researching. now I can rest assured that the links posted will be there if I need to go back and review or study more in depth. the beginnings of clearly a great research site for dakota genealogy and history. I look forward to learning and contributing.

Please make a note on what I am saying. All and any information input Posted here by-( YOU THE PEOPLE) is very innovated and important to maybe only one person or many persons. That is why we are here to -(SHARE OUR INFORMATION) .. I have seen time and time again that people dont want to share. We are here to share information and help you THE PEOPLE. So if you have a paper of some type, in your family that will help others in there search here share it. Ask a Staff member if it will help anyone else`s search. I understand we have spent money getting some papers, but you cant take them to the Big Cloud in the sky with ya and sharing them will make points I`m sure ...Time is short we all need each other Thankyou for your time. denney

Mike, I love the Pipestone link. I was really surprised to see all of the students listed. Everyone should check that link out if they had relatives who attended the boarding school in Flandreau. Can you do that with all of the boarding schools? Jackie

Tamara Reply
Lori Cox at the NARA was very very helpful and was able to reply to a request for school records in one afternoon and had document recieved in about three days with prompt payment. I was unable to access the Pierre Indian School records online but she was able to quick search and supply information readily. I think it would be safe to assume that it was possible with most boarding schools. I can send her email if needed. I had only to supply the basic information and aproxiamate dates. The records have the parents name and other information, some personal.

They were carried by Wa-ha-canka-ma-za, one of these mourners, a half day's journey at the peril of his life, and delivered to the messenger for General Sibley. Nor need I tell you that in fulfilment of the pledge of these letters, they did rescue the white captives and delivered them to us. Taopi had a certificate from General Sibley.
Who is the Wahacankamaza mentioned here? Anyone know?

HEY! (lightbulb) I just realized that on page 10 of the December statement of the court (second link on Denney's post of the statements of Judge Lettow) that the letter Judge Lettow cites regarding the censuses is the March 15th 1889 letter to McDonald from Robert Henton!!!! That is the letter that Ms BigEagle has and showed me!!!!
Anybody wanna see it???!!! this one I would make a trip into town for and have my nieces scan and send. ... after I unplug Ipods, mp3players and bump them off messengers and myspace.com... lol

Tamara Reply In the interest of maintaining a positive and productive atmosphere here at Oyate Exchange, I am going to post a link to a website called Indianz.com where the type of conversation that will not be allowed here is allowed freely. I caution there is a great deal of strong language and it is not for everyone. If anyone wishes to engage in this type of posting, maybe this would be the place for it as Oyate Exchange is not. indianz.com/board/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22472&whichpage=3
