Wow! You are awesome! For Solomon, what does it mean that "father's name is listed wrong"? Best regards, Jim It appears that on Solomon's birth certificate, his father is listed as Joseph instead of George. George may have had the middle name Joseph. Or it's just a typo.

I don't know how to access the smaller posts on the bottom, so I will post it here: Thank you for being so helpful! I would really liked to have this information as a child. Now that I am old, it is still great to be able to get information on my Dad's side of the family.

Vicky, I appreciate your help! Judy, I appreciate your help, as well! I feel like a little kid, just beginning my first class at school! Where do you find the birth certificate information for Soloman, and his family, including my dad, Kenneth Standfast? Are death certificates found in the same location? Best regards, Jim

Thanks for the help, Judy and welcome! Solomon's birth record can be found here- apps.sd.gov/applications/PH14Over100BirthRec/index.asp Death certificates can be found at the state vital statistics office in the state where the person died, or at the County level at the courthouse. Just obtain the form from their web site, fill it out and send it in, usually with a 10 dollar (or so) fee. Birth records under 100 years old are impossible to get without a court order, because of privacy laws. You probably will not be able to get the birth certificate for your father. I had the same problem trying to get my mother's. No go. :-(

Jim, The Minnesota Historical Society has a death and birth index on their website. The death certificates are from 1908-2001. people.mnhs.org/dci/ The birth certificates are from 1900-1934 people.mnhs.org/bci/I checked the name Standfast and only found the one death certificate. You can order a copy thru their website for $9.00. The death certificate should tell where he is buried, his parents names( the index says his mothers maiden name was La Bue), birth place ( if known) & date, spouse, address where he died, cause of death. Keep in mind that a death certificate is only as accurate as the person giving the info. Judy

Thanks Judy! It's great having you here!! For your dad's death certificate, check with the county in MO where he died. They should have it at the courthouse. :-)

judy: a hearty welcome to our website. We hope you will come here often. We appreciate your input. guys, I wonder if his mother's surname may have actually been Lebeau? what do you think? this would indicate that you have some French/ French Canadian blood in you fast67.

Hermin1,
Thanks, as far as that last name LeBeau, I think your right on the money. It seems like the type of name that could be misspelled a lot.

You guys are pretty amazing! My dad was 7/8, and my mother had told me he had some French, but only a small amount. I appreciate you efforts in helping me fill a void about my father! I know next to nothing about his side of the family. I am learning, thanks to you guys! Best regards, Jim

Vicky, Do you know of any other relatives of Greeley or Taninyanhdinajin? My mother had mentioned a couple other people from her talks with my grandfather, Solomon. I would be interested in corresponding, Facebook or e-mail, or phone. I met Sylvester Goodteacher, Mickey Renville, and Annie Canku on one of my first visits to the reservation back in (I think) 1987. Best regards, Jim
