County Selection List The Minnesota Territory was formed in March of 1849. At that time, it included an eastern portion of the present day North and South Dakota. It's Territorial Legislature authorized the formation of nine counties from the Minnesota Territory the same year. The original nine counties were: Benton, Dakota, Itasca, Pembina, Mahkahto, Ramsey, Wabasha, Washington and Wahnahta. Though the boundaries have been altered considerably over the years, 5 of these still exist. During 1999, these will be celebrating their Sesquicentennial anniversary (150 years): Dakota, Itasca, Ramsey, Wabasha and Washington. Minnesota was admitted as the thirty-second state in May 1858. link below- home.att.net/~Local_History/Minnesota.htm
