Minnie Smith and Tahca Site-Deer Tail-Riverside, May 1907-one of the leaders in Riverside. He was one of the people who spoke out at the time before the Allotment Act was finalized. The government was saying that the Sioux people would be given rations and money for ten years. Deer Tail said, "But what about after the ten years?" SUMMARY Lieutenant Cloman poses with his horse mounted troops of Native American Oglala Sioux scouts, during a drill in a snowstorm on the Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota. They wear uniforms with fur caps and mittens and hold rifles. Tepees, wall tents, spare horses, and hay bales show in their camp. NOTES Inked on plate border: "No. 1301," photographer monogram and title deteriorated except for "Scouts;" title, number and monogram inked on plate image; "No 172" inked on bottom border. CREATED/PUBLISHED 1891 June 30 SUMMARY Native American, Lakota Sioux, (Oglala) Company B, United States Cavalry pose with their commander Lieutenant John J. Pershing and his assistant boy, Pine Ridge Agency, South Dakota, in front of a tepee. The men wear military uniforms and hold rifles; the first row reclines, second kneels and the back row stands.
