Herman, Thank you so much for this. You do so many wonderful things. I don't think I'm related to any Hoffmans, but they do keep cropping up and I find them often and didn't know who they were.

Update: Margaret Hoffman , the wife of Paul Mazakute, was the daughter of Mary Hoffman aka Nagiskanskansawin and Nagiwicakte(oneof the Indians who instigated the 1862 Uprising ). after paul Mazakute's death, she married Benjamin Whipple and they had several children. See the Whipple Family History chart elsewhere in this section. I thought that they had also had a daughter Anna Hoffman aka Tiyopamazawin, who married Thomas Wakanna aka Tasagya aka Whipple , a descendant of Tasagye( thomas was his son) and a nephew of Husasa.(see update for correctionof error)
Update 12/20/2008: Anna aka Tiyopamazawin was born @1854-1857 in wisconsin, and baptized at Mendota ,MN in 1863 by Rev. S.D. Hinman. her Parents were listed as John Acaksin and Mary Nagi(short for Nagiskanskansawin). ref. is Santee Agency baptismal Record 1843-1904. I am guesing that this John Acaksin was another name for Jacob or John Walker. Jacob or John Walker and Mary Nagi also had a son William, born @1867-1872 . William is listed with his wife Maggie, anddaughter Bessie May inthe 1889 Mdewakanton census done by maj. mcglauhlin(sP). William's last name is given as Hoffman with the word(Walker) in parenthesis. the special report to the bIA in 1904 listed william as havng an alotment in Minnesota, andthat it was in the possession of his mother Mary(Hoffman) Walker. So it appears jacob walker or John Acaksin and Mary Hoffman had a son and a daughter.
Mary's late spouse Nagiwicakte had 2 wives and 1 child in the 1849 Redwing Census done by Rev. John Aiton(Minn. Geneal. Journ.: 9:pp. 353 -358. Rev. Aiton noted tht he had 3 children with one of his wives.
Her spouse Thomas Wakana Whipple was the son of Wamdiwyankapi and Tatiyopa(Anna Hakewaste-Ross).he was born in 1845 in Faribault Minnesota, and baptized at Mendota ,MN in 1863 by Rev. S. D. Ref. Hinman(Ibid).
