I just have a question and if you don't want me on this board that is OK but I find it kind of funny that you posted about my family the Flutes and I am an Ld to the suit. I became a member on this board because of the great info you all do to us all Dakota. What you posted I already know about my family and the ties my family has. John Flute is my GG Grandfather and was a Christan Pastor. I know my Dakota Family and where I came from. Maybe I took this wrong and if I did please let me know. Because there is a lot of bad feelings among Dakota people that shouldn't be.

Hello dakotajw and welcome! I'm afraid you will find no bad feelings here. There are a couple of "cranky" blogs out there, but this isn't one of them. We love and respect everybody on this board. Hermin1 gathers, organizes and shares info for all who are in need. We are all here to learn, many of us are here as helpers, many are here to learn history they never had a chance to learn growing up. I would imagine there are other Flute descendants who might be interested in the information hermin1 has to share, and I would encourage you to share your info also. This is how we learn and grow. So, for whatever reason you have come here, we welcome you and are happy you have chosen to be a part of the board. :-)

Hey again dakotajw, I wonder if you can help me with this little project of mine? I know that Rev. John Flute was Pastor at Mountainhead Church for some time. I have started a listing for this cemetery at Find A Grave, using transcriptions of grave stones, photos I have taken there, the scant burial records at the courthouse in Britton for this cemetery, and various death certificates I have sent off for. Do you know of any other burials in this cemetery which might not have markers? It appears there are many many more unmarked graves and it just makes me so sad. I will appreciate any help, as I live a 7 hour drive away from Veblen. Thanks in advance! www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GSmid=46951392&CRid=2239208&pt=Mountainhead-LaBelle%20Cemetery&

Thank you all. Jonah Flute is John Flutes father, then Henry Flute. Henry Flutes children are Samuel, Rebecca, Lucinda, William, Fannie, Margaret, Homer and then my grandmother Susan. Henry Flute also had five other children but they passed at a very young age and all had Dakota names.

I do have that booklet, thank you for thinking of us! How fun that your kin knew my kin! I will add John Flute to the Find a Grave site. Do you know his date of death? I find mention of John Flute in the booklet- The First 50 Years, Dakota Presbytery to 1890, published in Good Will SD in 1892.

Thank you two so much for all the info. I just wish I could help more. Jonah Flute was one of the Dakota who signed the Fort Laramie Treaty not sure if it was the 1851 or the 1868. Do you know his Dakota name and possibly Henry's five children who passed as infants they all had Dakota names as well. I know this is a long shot but you guys are very good at this and have all my respect. Thank you so much.

Hmmmm, on a book page above, it states that John Flute's parents were Cotankainape and Siyowahdewin. If this is the same John Flute you are looking for ( I am always cautious, as we often see the same name used for generations) then Jonah Flute's name was Cotankainape. Where was Henry Flute located when he had his family so we know where to look? Hermin1, take it awayyyyyyyyyyyy!
