The Filles du Roi (the King's Daughter)were young french women who were sent to the New France colony inthe middle 1600's-middle 1700's ,as part of a program of King Louis XIV of France,to promote the settlement of the aforementioned colony. the women were to marry the French men who had settled in the colony. Those women who could not afford a dowry were provided with a monetary grant from the King, hence they were named "the King's Daughters".other incentives included a land grant, and cows, pigs, and chickens for the farm. About 770 women were sent to New France, and of these 703 were married. The listing of the filles, the name of the groom and the marriage date can be found at the web site below: www.fillesduroi.org/Daughters/Filles/filles.html
