Fellow Researchers: Here is what little I have on the Sellwyns(or Selwyn)surname. I have that the Patriarch was a Chief Called Medicine Cow. Medicine Cow is really Ptewakannajin (Holy or Sacred Standing Buffalo Cow). There are two men with this name. Holy Cow (ha!) Sisseton Dakota, Tizaptanna Band. Medicine Cow (ha!) or Joseph Selwyn 1819-1898 chief of the Wakmuha Oin (Gourd Earring) band of Yankton, Nakota. He signed the 1858 Yankton Treaty.
