Medicine Cow is really Ptewakannajin (Holy or Sacred Standing Buffalo Cow). There are two men with this name. Holy Cow (ha!) Sisseton Dakota, Tizaptanna Band. Medicine Cow (ha!) or Joseph Selwyn 1819-1898 chief of the Wakmuha Oin (Gourd Earring) band of Yankton, Nakota. He signed the 1858 Yankton Treaty. Yes, Medicine Cow or what ever you want to call him had 2 other boys (i think) I don't have this stuff here at work. Ptewakannajin Pte = Buffalo cow; Wakan = sacred, holy; Najin = to stand) Standing Sacred Cow. Two men had this name one a Yankton Chief and the other a Sisseton. Later, Louie
