For jenetl- Can you give us more information? What tribe? Some approx. dates they lived? I have a SAMUEL and Fanny Robertson who had a son Lincoln. Lincoln was born at Flandreau, married at Santee and lived at Sisseton in 1935. This Lincoln had children- Howard and Lucille. I cannot find a Lawrence and Fanny, but may not be looking in the right place. Further info would be most helpful. Thanks!  |

Thanks Vicky. Yes that would be the ones. Samuel and Fanny Robertson. Just wondering where their descendency came from, family etc. I was raised not on the Dakota side but on the other side of my family, which is my mothers. Ho-chunk from Wisconsin. The persons you listed are correct. Thank you in any help you can give me regarding family tree information. Thank you.

Thanks hermin1. The 3 Samuels I have so far include-
1. Samuel who received a land allotment at Sisseton in 1875. I have no other info on him.
2. Samuel N. the son of Thomas A. Born in 1876. Married to Agnes. He is not the right age to be Lincoln's father. He was located at Flandreau and Sisseton.
3. Samuel the son of Job. Baptized 6-3-1888. Too late to be Lincoln's father unless he was baptised as an older child or adult. Job was located at Flandreau and Santee.
I cannot find any of these folks on any Federal or State census except for Samuel (son of Thomas A.) and Agnes in 1900.
The Lincoln you have is correct. He was born and had some schooling at Flandreau, married at Santee, and I have a SDERA survey on him in 1935 when he lived at Sisseton. I'll post all this stuff when I get it uploaded.
Maybe someone can check the Indian Census Schedules at ancestry.com??
jenetl, your only hope may be to order some probate/ heirship reports from NARA in DC. :-(

OK, I dug up an 1890 Flandreau Indian census page. Samuel was born c. 1854. He is not the son of either Job or Thomas A. Yes it would be Samuel and Fanny Robertson. You see I was wondering who I might be related to on the Dakota side. Ancestors and present day. My father and aunts were sent to boarding school and seem to be estranged from their family on the Dakota side. They were taken away from their Dakota grandparents at a very young age and all sent to board school, so any one that could help with this I would be very appreciative. Thank you for all your help.

vicki and jeneti, the Samuel robertson you are looking for is the one that was born@1854-1858. i found him with Fannie Wisoyeadetewin(sp.) in the 1889 mdewakanton Census at Redwood Settlement,MN.
Samuel was listed as age 31 but his name was crossed out.
His wife Fannie was 34 yrs. old at the time, their children were Lincoln age3, Lucy age8, and Genevieve 1/2 yr..
Then I found Fannie again with just Lincoln age 11, and Lucinda age13. I forgot to write down the source of the information.
I checked the School records I have for Carlisle,hampton,Genoa, Greenwood,Santee, but didn't find anything on Lucy,Geneveve or lIncoln.
nest check is the Pipestone records at nARA.

Yes, we had it narrowed down to that Samuel. but who were his parents? I believe this is the Samuel who received a land allotment at Sisseton then vanished. I have nothing on him after 1875 when he moves back to MN.
jenetl would like to find out who his parents were. I see no way to find this info other than probates. Do you have this info?? :-)

Samue's Indian name was Niyowicandeza. Nothing on his parents. but the he had a brother J. Robertson age 29 yrs.(Ref. 1885 South dakota terr. Census Egan,Moody, Dak. Ter.).
1892 Samuel and Fannie with Lucinda and Lincoln were back in Flandreau,Moody ,SD. I am guessing that Genevieve must have died. I lost Samuel after that at Ancestry.Fannie with the two kids I mentioned abov e at ages 11 and 13 were living at Flandreau.
the 1880 US Census Hope, Lincoln, MN, lists him as a cousin at age23,in the household of John Moore age 56(white man), wife Mary Moore age 41-Indian, and Thomas Robinette(or Robertson?) cousin, age20.
As for the Pipestone Indian School records, no5hing on Lincoln and lUcinda.

Hmmmm, I wonder if J. Robertson, his brother, was JOB?? That would explain why Job also had a son and named him Samuel. After his brother??
jenetl is also looking to hook up with living descendants. I'll check with navajo and see if she knows of any.
