Cobell attorneys working towards Senate approval of settlement
Friday, August 20, 2010
Attorneys for the Indian trust fund lawsuit are hopeful the Senate will approve the $3.4 billion settlement to the case.
The House has voted for the settlement twice. Action has stalled in the Senate amid partisan issues and concerns about paying for it.
"We feel very comfortable we have more than enough votes to (pass) it," attorney Dennis Gingold told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader.
The deal provides $1.412 billion in payments to individual Indians. It creates a $2 billion land consolidation fund to buy land from willing individual sellers.
