WESTON FAMILY DOCUMENTS

This is the testimony of David Weston in 1901 concerning the war

Valere Beeck (Sunshine) - have just received a packet of information from Roberta Williamson, head of the Moody County Museum. It contains a large amount of information on the Weston Family. I was looking for information for David Weston(the original)whose name was Owancaduta and his 20 year realtionship with Mary Hapstin/Martha Stone. Unfortunately, there was nothing in there about her. To my best knowledge, he was the 7th child of Cloudman and took over his chiefdom from 1866-69. There are family trees, as well as a large copy of his testimony to the government from 1901. I would like to share this with the Oyate people, how do I get this information to you?

"I can't find the name Jeremiah or Jerry Campbell on either list. But, this doesn't mean they weren't captives. Following are the Campbell listings:

If you don't have a copy of his full claim, I think that Brown County Historical Society in New Ulm does. They may be able to help with other information. Lower Sioux Agency Historic Site will reopen in the spring. They may also be able to help at that time. These are my notes from his claim:

1327 - Jeremiah Campbell Claim
Filed in Nicollet County, 2/16/1863
Married with 2 children.
Lived 8 miles from Lower Sioux Agency.
Occupations was farming and trapping.
Lived on Indian land
He and his family were taken prisoner and released at Camp Release.
He is now a private in Company ___, 10th Regt., Minnesota Volunteers.
