the louis Frenier who died at santee in 1871 was Louis Jr., the son of Louis Frenier,Sr.and Winona.Louis Sr. was the son of Francois and Mary Helen Winyantoiciyewin. Louis,Jr. was baptized in 1837 by Father Ravoux( Baptismal Record).Louis,SR. died in Minnesota prior to or @ 1851(BIA heirship Report Mary Frenier).
Louis Jr. was married to Mary Wamnuhaskanskawin, daughter of Ipahde and Mahpiyaoicewin. Mary was also later wed to Johnson Garvie(b. 1856) but he deserted her and ran off to Minnesota. Mary and Louis Frenier ,Jr. had a son Louis FrenierIII Louis Frenier III is the one who was wed to Jane Wastewin before 1862 in MN, then he divorced her @1873. He then married Wakagewin d/o Kinyanihpaye and "Lame Woman" (Heirship Report Wakagewin 1914)..they wed in 1873 by IC in SD, then divorced in 1883 in SD. Louis III then went back to Jane and was with her til she died in 1902. Then Louis III married Josephine Boyd in 1902 at Santee(Santee Marr. Register).
There is at least another Louis Frenier, son of Louison Frenier and one of his two wives. (I just did some parsing to make this information more clearer).

You won't believe this, but 'Lame Woman" was also married to James White Whirlwind( of the Rosebud Res.) and they had a daughter Mary White whirlwind, wife of David Kitteau of Yankton Res. ---------- Update: So Wakagewin and Mary are half siblings.correction: they were not half siblings. See Heirship report below for Wakagewin.) One of Mary and David's son Benjamin's descendents sent a photo of Lame Woman. she was a stately looking, beautiful woman.
james White Whirlwind's other wife was Emily Poor dog. they married on13 Aug. 1910 in So. Dakota. Emily was 64, and James was 60.
Will wonders never cease?Correction: Vicky with the documentation has helped me find more pieces of a puzzle re. several families. this is one of those thngs that makes this research so rewarding and fascinating.

So Sake, Mary's husband, is Louis Frenier the II?? All those Santee docs you cited I have posted above. :-) __________ No. Mary Helene Wyantoiciyewin was the wife of Sake(Francois Frenier). mary Wamnuhaskanskawin was the wife of Louis frenier II(aka Louis Frenier,Jr.). _ Vicky: I was confused about how many Louis Freniers there were on Francois's branch for some while. I reread the Probate for Mary Frenier again, and that is when the documentation you sent plus what i have in my files, made clear what the BIA records were showing: first Louis Frenier,Sr. son of Mary Helen Wiyantoiciyewin and Sake/Francois laFreniere(Frenier). Louis Frenier Sr. married Winona(don't know who she was). They had son Louis ,Jr. and he was baptized in 1837 by Fr. Augustin Ravoux(Baptismal Record). Louis Frenier,Jr. Married Mary Wamnuhaskanskawin. don't know when they married. they had Louis frenier III.(BIA Rec'ds,Mary Frenier Probate). This Mary was also the wife of Johnson Garvie, wholater deserted her. Louis Frenier III is the one that was married to Jane Wastewin, then to Wakagewin and then to Jane Wastewin again. After jane died, he married Josephine Boyd.

This is my family line, David Sunkawaste Kitteau. Any info you have of this family would be greatly appreciated. Have hit many brick walls with this research. I have a picture of our Lame Woman that my father shared with me (it has a crack through her face but was repaired somewhere) Wondering if this is the same picture you speak of...and who sent it to you because Benjamin is my great grandfather. Thank you in advance. Emy

Iktomi: Welcome to our website. No need to apologize, I am still learning how to maneuver around Mike's website. hahaha According to my records you wrote to Curtis Mike Kitto re. David Kitteau, and attached a two photos, one of Benjamin Kitteau, and one of Lame woman and he forwarded the photos you sent him,. to me. Curtis and I work together on helping others find their ancestors. Are you related to the cmathews who posted a request for help with your David Kitteau at Oyate Exchange Research Center? do you have an heirship report for David Kitteau? The reason I ask is that cmathews posted a request at Oyate Exchange Research Center site for information on David Kitteau. and she provided information from his Heirship report. David Kitteau was born @1857 SD, and apparently was enrolled with the Yankton Tribe. He died in 1923. he was marrried 4 times: Itoyepetawin. they separated. they had 3 chldren that died as infants. wife #2 wasWisiha. they had children:Jennie Standing Buffalo, and Rosa(Rose) Kitteau wife #3 was Gloa- they separated. wife #4 was Mary White Whirlwind(see above for her parents ,etc.) Mary and David wed @1897. Mary was born 1869 and died 21 Jan, 1934 in Chas Mix county,SD. Their children were William, Emily(Amelia),Agnes,Bessie,Mercy and Benjamin, and Harlan. Children living at the time of David Kitteau's death were Jenny Standing Buffalo,Rosa(rose) Kitteau and Benjamin Kitteau. Agnes Kitteau died may,1975 at Chas Mix,SD I am sorry , but neither I nor Curtis have been able to find out who David Kitteau's parents were.

Iktomi :I hope the information helps you. Re. the first three spouses of David Kitteau, Curtis and I were unable to find any marriage records, so David must have wed them by Indian custom. cmathews does not mention anything about the first three marriages in re. to dates, or how the marriage was performed(Ind. custom or Ceremony).

Thank you hermin1. Yes Uncle Mike did give me this information. (and he is such a wonderful Uncle, hoping to meet in person when he comes for his mom's birthday in January) Was wondering what information you have on Mary and her parents or is what is above all there is? And cmathews is a friend of my dad's who is helping also. She hasn't shared everything she has found yet as she has 3 binders full as of right now. Well, thank you again for your help. I will continue on my search for my ancestors. Need to make a trip to Pine Ridge now too and see what i can find out there on my Deon/Dion line. Take care and have a wonderful holiday season. Emy
