Theresa:if I didn't know an beter, I would say that the Tonkin Samuel Davis who registered for the draft in 1917-1918 was the son of Samuel by his second wife,Eliza.he was living in Powhaton{sp), Virginia when he registered. he would be your 2nd Step-cousin.he was born 8 March,1888, Isabella, Mich..

Yes the above posting at Ancestry.com was mine hoping to find some info.... Would Tonkin be a G Uncle my G Grandpa Ed's Half Brother? You are pretty good at this I guess I am not looking in the correct place... I have been going thru papers this afternoon and found my G Granpda Edward and Elizabeth purchased property in meridian Township, Ingham Michigan 1914 - 1960 I found Tax receipts. I guess he lived and worked in Alma after leaving Carlisle Indian School and then married Elizabeth and moved could not find anything on Samuel..... I have a picture of a lady who looks a lot like my G Grandpa Ed thinking it could be Martha? she is younger than he. Question who do I address a letter to requesting info on my family to the Chippewa Tribe? I looked and did not see who to address it to Thank you again for all you have found ....Awesome....

yes you are correct, tonkin would be your grt. uncle, it is his children who would be your step cousins. I couldn't find anything else on Tonkin either.i sent a message to that Rene aksing for info on Samuel and the family. Will let you know if she replies. here's a website I always use for censuses; www.censusfinder.comdo you have a library card? Check on line to see if your library had digital downloads. if so, look for heritage quest. Click on it and in the window that opens, type in the digital code on back of your library card. then select Censuses.only give them the surname, if you get to particular they don't give you hits.
